Our Story

After a series of health problems that traditional medicine didn’t solve, we began re-evaluating the products in and around our home. “Nontoxic” wasn’t the standard; we wanted to know the ingredients in every single thing. What started out as a goal of eliminating toxins and finding health turned into a love for nature, and amazement at the Creator’s perfect, original design for both our bodies and our planet.

At Desert Oak Apothecary, we believe in root cause healing, and not simply symptom management. We have discovered that herbal alternatives are not only simpler but also just as effective as modern medicine for most of the issues that plague us today. Plants were perfectly designed to work with our bodies’ natural healing abilities, and using them properly can enable long-term relief.

Our products are carefully sourced, harvested, and produced with the goal of creating the most effective herbal remedies possible. We set the highest quality standards in each part of our process: from every piece of equipment to each component of our products. Each ingredient is carefully selected, freshly harvested, and used in its most potent form.

We are not just selling herbal alternatives; we are inviting you to join us in a movement to get back to our roots: the original roots, before laboratories filled with plastic became the standard, and health became something you could manufacture. Plants can be more than just food, they can be healing, and we are on a mission to help you understand how to use them to help your family.

Explore our shop to expand both your natural medicine cabinet and your confidence in how and when to use herbal remedies.

A little about the beginnings of Desert Oak Apothecary:

I’m Miriam, the herbalist behind the brand.

When I first started diving into nontoxic alternatives and holistic health, it didn’t take long for me to discover herbalism & realize that it’s something I’m passionate about. I cannot count the number of nights I have talked my husband’s ear off about a new plant I’m studying & how it can be used. I started making my own medicine (with dried plants at first) for our family, then for extended family and friends. I took herbalism classes & spent all my free time researching or identifying plants.

My husband overheard one of my classes talking about making things however you want, to cultivate your own “individual flair” as an herbalist… and he started laughing. He’s a military man, okay, so the idea of just doing it however you want to… is comical. :)

And there was born our particular flair: nature, with order. We take the freshest, highest quality ingredients & turn them into effective remedies by using a standardized, sterilized process that makes sure we maximize the benefit of every product, every time.

We sanitize our work area & tools, weigh everything, wear gloves, write it all down, make lists & schedules & track every little thing…. but it makes our product consistent (I mean, as consistent as you can be with plants) and that attention to quality and detail is everywhere.

It’s our goal that each product you get from us is exactly the same each time you buy, and that you can expect professional-level quality at every turn, with no shortcuts just because it’s easier or cheaper for us. We quality-control each other: because I care about the plants, and he cares about the process.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 “Two are better than one because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, one will lift up his companion. But woe to him who is alone when he falls, for he has no one to help him up.”
